DAILY HIRING SYSTEM. ENGINEERS’ AGITATION. SETTLEMENT NEGOTIATIONS. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. Received 10.15 a.m. to-day. SYDNEY, August 1. Strikes of engineers against the daily hiring system continue. Efforts are being made to settle a dispute at the Sunshine .'Harvester works at Melbourne. The men desire a conference with the management, but the latter stipulates that there must, be a general resumption of work before they can accede to the request. Unless a settlement can soon be reached, the works will be closed down and over two thousand men will be involved.
