It is surprising, to say the least, that New Zealanders should be outdone by a body of men from another countrv in singing a Maori song, but such was the case at Gisborne recently. When the members of the Canadian Association football team were being shown round the Ivahutia liou ling Club’s gronuds the bowlers thought it would he appropriate to regale thenvisitors with a Maori song. They sang lustily “Tenei te tangata pai rawa ’tu.” “That is a nice song, said the team’s manager. “What does it mean?” It was explained that the words meant the same as the tune indicated. “For Tliev are Jolly Good Fellows.” “I think we can do better than that.” said the manager, as he led his men in the same song, and even with greater gusto. The Kaliutia members were amazed. It was explained that the visitors had been given the words of the song on their arrival at Auckland, and had learned
