FREE RAILWAY PASSES. WOMEN’S DIVISION REQUEST. WELLINGTON, July 28. A deputation representing the women ’s branch of the Farmers ’ Union waited on tlie Premier requesting free railway passes to the union’s nurses and housekeepers and free carriage for books circulated by the union’s library. Mr Coates assured the deputation of the Government’s sympathy with the backblock settlers, but pointed out that tlie granting of the request might lead to hundreds of such requests. Without definitely giving free passes he thought they might be able to fix the matter so that they could obtain them at very little cost.
