theft at patea. (by telegraph—press ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, July 28. Three months’ imprisonment, concurrent with a sentence at present being served by Thos. Christian Jensen, for breach of ins probation license, v, as imposed on him to-day on each of two charges of theft of saddles and bridles, and one of the theft of a horse. One saddle and bridle was taken near Patea, and the other and the horse at Manakau. Accused recently, got a month's sentence for conversion of a motorcar. MANSLAUGHTER TRIAL. WELLINGTON, July 28. Arising from a motor tragedy on the Hutt Road on May 24, which resulted in the death of Henry Brian Kenny, a service car driver, two men, Henry Stacey and Ernest Edward Harper, were to-day charged in the Supreme Court under the Crimes Act with manslaughter, and further with negligently driving a motor car, thereby causing the death of Kenny. Mr Justice Reed presided, Mr Macassey appeared for the Crown, Mr Dolan for Stacey and Mr Leicester for Harper. “This is a case in which two men, allegedly under the influence of liquor, converted a ear to their own use and, while speeding down the Hutt. Road, crashed into a service car coming in from Masterton, killing the driver,” said the prosecutor. “Accused appear to differ as to who was driving the car.” Mr Macassey said that the casewas one of joint adventure. Both accused were in occupation of the car, and both jointly in occupation. Evidence is proceeding along the lines tendered in the lower court.
