“AIR MIND.”
AVIATION FOR ALL. SIR ALAN COBH AM’S THEORY. LONDON. July 14. ‘'The best way to take advantage of the stimulus Americans Jiave given to aviation is not necessarily to try and beat their gloriou® record, but to make Britain a nation of airmen. This can only be attained bv the unsiibsidised encouragement of the private owner,” writes Sir Allan Cobham in the “Daily Mail.” “The British youth,” he continues, “lias the right spirit. Aeroplanes are not as popular as motors merely owing to the absence of sufficient aerodromes. Every city, town and village should have a municipal landing-groundwhich could be combined with playing fields. ‘‘Provided the .land available measure’s 500 yards square, .runaways could la provided enabling airmen to land with the wind in any direction. This would familiarise children with, aviation, would make the coming 'generation air-minded, and produce -airmen capable of developng commercial air routes in those parts of the "globe where thev will be the most valuable.”
