I'ROPOSED ALTERATION. FURTHER OBJECTION RAISED. At last meeting of- the Ha>wera High. School Board o-f Managers further reference was made to the proposal of the Railway Department to delete from the time-table the present early morning train from the south, and it wu.s decided Blither representations should be made to the Minister in Charge of the Railways Department and also to the Education Minister with a view to having the train continued, as its deletion would result in 50 pupils from the Paten, district 'being unable to attend schoolThe chairman, Air. R. S. Sage, reported that representations had been made to the Railway Board, a member of which had replied that it was essential that that department should he conducted in such a manner as to pay expenses. This would seem to be a change in policy as compared with the •system previously -followed whereby the various departments endeavoured to co-operate. Mr. E. F. Hemingway, a Patea. member of ,tlie Wanganui Education Board, had brought the matter under the notice of the latter body, which had decided to. register its disapproval of the suggestions in letters to be sent to the Ministers of botih. ■d-epTurtmeut^. On the motion of Afessrs. J. TV. Harding and A. L. Campbell, it was decided to draw the attention qf _ the Minister of Education and the Minister of Railways to the proposal to discontinue the early morning train from Patea, and that, the Minister of Education should arrange that the children should not lie deprived of their' secondary education. The chairman was given authority to arrange for a deputationIt wa.s 'also- decided to thank the Wanganui Education Board and Air. Hemingway for their assistance.
