TROPHIES PRESENTED.

SOCIAL EVENING aND DANCE,

The Hawera Poultry Society, lO mark the conclusion of the annual show, last night held a social evening in the Savoy Rooms, at which die trophies won at the show were presented and a jolly little dance held. The president of the. society, Mr. J. B. Wilson, was in the ciiair and there was a large attendance, i .eluding a number of members . f the Si is fiord society, who were cordially welcomed by the chairman. Apologies were l received from Messrs. J. R. Corrigan, H. G. Dickie, M.P., F. Gil landers, W. A. Spragg, J. Ekdahl, A. Cocker.

The toast of “The King” having been honoured, Mr. Hall gave “The Hawera Society” and, bn hi® reply, Mr. Hopkins remarked that the advance in the popularity of the club was demonstrated bv the fact that £ll2 had been received in cash and trophies, £SO being collected for the trophy fund. No less than five cups and rose bowis were captured outright- this year. He said Mr. Gardiner had donated another cup to replace that which had been won outright, and Mr. Watson promised to do the same when his cup was won outright. Other toasts honoured were “Donors of Trophies” (Mr. Poison —Messrs. Watson and Gardiner), “President and Past Presidents” (Mr. Gaylard— Messrs. Stewart and Wilson), “Winners” (Mr. A. Morris—Messrs Galvin ancl Watson), “Artists and Visitors” (Mr. Gardiner—Messrs. Hale (Stratford) and Morris). The prizes were presented by Mr. Don, Stewart, who also announced the result of the estimating competition®, the winners being Mr. Gaylard, who guessed 875 (correct -number 874), Mr. McKay and Mr. H. Stemming. The competition was for number of beans in bottle and the prizes were a bag of sugar, a 21b tin of tea and a pipe. Musical and elocutionary numbers were given by Miss Mill’s, Miss M. Barnes, Messrs. A. Morris, McFadgen, and V. Thomas. The ball was then .cleared and a successful dance was held.
