The “Wanganui Herald” reprints a passage from a. modern geography book, printed at Home and used in secondnry sc hoots in New Zealand, referring to emigrants to Australia and New Zealand: “The destination of the emigrants is ‘the hush,’ which is the name given to the inland parts of the country. Many of them serve on farms for a year and then start farming on their own account. They clear the land of tihe native trees and hushes, cuilitivatej a. portion, of the clearing, fence it in, and stock it with sheep (and cattle.” How very interesting to know, comments ' the “Herald,” that the destination of emigrants ds the bush. The nearest the majority ever get to it is a passing view from trains. There is everv indication that the turning-point lias been reached, for, where selling-prices were at liedrock a little while ago, the prices are starting to rise. There is a syndicate in Christchurch at present which is willing to spend £2(X),000 in the purchase of city properties.
