NORMANBY.

TOWN BOARD. At the monthly meeting of the Normanby Town Board there were present: Commissioners C. J. Preston (chairman), T. Lloyd, P. Levdon, A. Hills, and A. Galloway. A letter w r as received from Mr J. Coutts asking permission to erect a guard fence on Atkinson Street. Permission was granted. The Hawera Amateur Athletic Club asked to be allowed to use the roads through the township for a cycle race. This was granted. A letter was received from the secretary of the Normanby School Committee conveying the committee’s appreciation for the work the board had done in levelling and, gravelling the footpath in front of the new boulder fence, which had much improved the entrance to the school. The hoard carried the following motion: “That the board support the elimination of preference to unionists’ clause as applied to local bodies’ employees. ’ ’ It was decided that tlie chairman and clerk wait on the cliarnian and clerk of tlie Hawera County Council in connection with the heavy traffic fees. The following rates w r ere struck for the ensuing year, viz., at town district rate of 2Jd and a county rate of 2Jd in the £, on the unimproved value. A local resident who has trimmed his hedges and left the trimmings on the roadway is to be given notice to burn the same. Accounts to the amount of £6l 17s 4d were passed for payment.
