FIRE AT WELLINGTON.

EXTENSIVE DAMAGE DONE,. (BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, July 10. Several thousand pounds worth of damages was done by a fire in a twofctoried wood and iron building 011 Lambton Quay shortly after six o’clock this morning. The building was owned by James A. Doherty, tailor who uses the first floor as a workroom. Most of the damage was done to the premises of Jay’s, Ltd., ladies’ outfitters, on the ground floor. Hundreds of frocks were ruined. Adams Bruce, Ltd., had a cakeshop on the adjoining ground floor, and this suffered loss by water. The fire apparently started in Dohertr’s workroom, which was gutted. The insurances were: —Jays, Ltd., £2900 in the Prudential, and fittings for £l3O in the same office: Doherty’s furniture, and fittings, £3(X) in the State, and a similar amount in the Liverpool. London and Globe; Adams Bruce, stock and fittings for £l5O in the Royal: building, £I2OO in the New Zealand Office.
