For <a start, Wednesday night will be u -silent night with 2YA, but- it is unticipated that a nightly programme will be broadcast eventually. It will take- a couple of weeks to get into tlie running with set programmes; therefore news items, also children's and afternoon sessions, will be added, say, within two weeks of the commencement. The- biggest job is arranging at least a. month ahead for trti.sits throughout the year.
It will be the endeavour of the Broadcasti-ng Company to provide firstclass talent always; -but there is not a large field of talent to draw upon, and it irv quite likely that difficulty may occur from time to- time in respect to the securing of suitable artists. Every effort will be made to keep tlie standard of programmes up to the mark, it is stated-
There is every 'probability that arrangements will be made with tlie bands of Wellington for band music to lie rendered during each evening programme. This will be welcome news to listeners.
Listeners hardly realise what 5k w. aerial rating means, but •all curiosity will foe dispelled Milieu 2YA commences operations. With an 80 per cent, mod illation, every -note of music and speech, low notes included, should be received tar distant with perfect Clarity. Pending, co-operation between 'New Zealand and Australia in permanently fixing the 'wavelengths, the New Zealand P. and T. Department ha® made the following change in the wavelength.-* of Dominion stations: In the following table, the new wavelengths are in the black figures, with the past lengths in lightface type.
This provides a separation of 50 kilocycles between 2BL, Sydney, and IYA; 50 kilocycles between IYA and 2GB, Sydney, tand 8(5 kilocycles between the Auckland and Christchurcii stations. The Australian and New Zealand wavelengths are now as follows, the separation in metres between a station land the one above it in the list being given in the tost column:
It is. a* yet too. early to .have experimented with the new change m order to- see the effect. One matter that Auckland Uistners will view with apprehension is the small separation between IYA ami 2BL, generally spoken of «us the most popular Australian .station. For many listeners it will mean exchanging 2BL for 2FO on their receivers. The department has taken to meet 'listeners' complaint of the former wavelengths, and it appears that the department tjiais made the hast changes in -the circumstances of having to take what Australia' had left-
