A Press Association, message from Dunedin reports the death of Mr Peter Goyen, aged 81, ex-chief inspector of schoo’s. He was well known as ail educational authority. Tire Hon. O. J. Hawken (Minister of Agriculture) was a passenger for Wellington by the south express this morning. , Messrs. J. Gray and A. Good, of Hawera, left by the south express to attend the Racing Conference at Wellington. Messrs. C. J. Preston and C. H. Washer, of Hawera, were among the passengers bv the south express for Wellington tliis morning. Air. B. Aluggeridge, of Hawera, left by the south express this morning on a visit to Auckland. Mr C. F. Alark, secretary of the Auckland Tretting Club, and a member of the New Zealand Trotting Association, died to-day (states a Press Association message from Auckland). The death is announced from Sydney of Air. J. Hendry, former Sydney superintendent of the Eastern Extension Cable Company. The great respect in which the late Alls. Al. J. Hurrell and family are held by the residents of Hawera and district was amply demonstrated by the attendance at the funeral, wliich took p.ace at the Hawera cemetery this afternoon, Alany beautiful floral expressions of sympathy were in evidence, in addition to numerous telegrams and letters expressing sympathy with the family. The bearers comprised friends of the family and employees of the firm of Alessrs Hurrell Bros. The members of the local W.C.T.U. braved; the elements and marched in procession in the cortege as a mark of respect for their late co-worker in the cause.
