KIRKWOOD’S TIRADE
AGAINST PRINCE OF WALES. SPEECH IN THE COMMONS. RECORDED BY ‘HANSARD.” BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHI Received 10.35 a.m. to-day. LONDON, July 10. An unreported speech of Air. D. Kirkwood in the House of Commons in the small hours of Friday morning appears in “Hansard.” The House was discussing formal gas supply regulations, in which appeared the usual clause protecting the rights of the Prince of Wales in the Duchy of Cornwal 1. Air. Kirkwood exclaimed: “Is it not time we stopped this nonsense? Why should there be special privileges for the holder of the Duchy ? I have never met him. Is he so poor that he should need an all-powerful institution to safeguard his interests? Who is he? What is this individual? Where does he come from ? Is he a human being or a descendant from Alars requiring special treatment?” Counting out by the House cut short the tirade. — A.P.A. and “Sun.”
