PERSONAL ITEMS.
Mr. R. Hadfield, who some 25 years or so ago was landlord of the Terminus Hotel, New Plymouth, died at Randwick, Sydney, on June 18. Mr. C. A. Marris, who was editor of the “New Zealand Times” when that newspaper ceased publication, has been appointed editor of the “New Zealand Referee.”
Mr. J. L. Stout, S.M., of Palmerston North, who underwent a. minor operation on Tuesday, was compelled to re-enter hospital for a further operation, which was successfully performed. It will be some time, however, before he will be back on the Bench.
The matter of the vacancy on the HaiWera Hospital Board occasioned by the resignation of Mr. A- T. Wills was brought up at the meeting of the Hawera County Council qn Saturday by receipt of a letter advising the need of appointing a fresh representative. The chairman said he was sorry Mr. Wills had resigned and it was much to be regretted that so much bickering had occurred, especially on isnch public bodies as the Hospital Board. The work done by Mr. Wills on the hoard had been very valuable and, was much appreciated. On his mot ion a vote of appreciation of Mr. Wills’s services was unanimously carried.
