EGMONT A. & P. ASSN.

RALLYING TO ITS SUPPORT. DISCUSSION AT ROTARY CLUB. The weekly meeting of. the Hawera Rotary Club was held last evening, when, according to arrangement, ordinary business was deterred tint next meeting, in order to give ample time for considering schemes widen might oe heiprul in assisting the Egmont A. and P. Association to overcome the financial difficulties which at present coni rent the association. Except lor two or trnee unavoidable absences, tnere was a fuil attendance of Rot-arians, and individual members u,ad again, by arrangement, invited guests to the extent that there were present as many guests as members,, the former including the president, vice-president and several prominent members of the, A. and P. Association. The president-elect. Rotairian. T. J. Salmon, was brieriy installed in his office by the retiring president, Rotarian B. McCarthy. The president caked upon ex-presi-dent McCarthy, who had first suggested that the club should endeavour to assist the association as a matter of community service, to open the discussion. Rotarian McCarthy explained for tho benefit of the visitors the procedure adopted by the club, which was that members had been divided into half-a-dozen separate committees to give consideration to the association’s affairs and suggest .schemes for improving the position.. The various committees had met arid each committee had -put forward various suggestions. The convenors of the .several committees had then met and conferred. It was found, as expected that certain schemes were common to each committee. The convenors had arranged an opening speaker for each, -scheme, and tiiese would bo • oa-ced before the meeting seriatim. It would then be open for all present to take part in the discussion, visitors as well as members. There were not any reporters present, and any public pronouncement would be made by the club’s -publicity committee. The speaker emphasised the point that the Rotari ails had no wish to criticise the administration of the association’s affairs. Their position was that they -recognised the 'importance of the association to the community, and desired to be helpful. It would be for the association to decide whether the assistance proffered was acceptable. Furthermore, it was to he distinctly understood that the proceedings of the evening were to be in committee, so that the utmost freedom should be -secured for the discussion.

The various schemes or suggestions were then placed before the meeting bv the speakers appointed, and there was a free discussion. The officers of the association who spoke made it very clear that the action taken bv the Rotary G’nb was much appreciated, the sincerity of the effort and its value to the association being cordially a.eknovdledged by -several association officials, including the president- (M.r S. C. Tonics), who formally thanked the Rotariaus on behalf of the association. It was. finally resolved bv the members of'the Rotary Club that the A. and P. Association he asked by the club to .receive and hear a committee of the dub, consisting of the present officers, the immediate past president, and the convenors of the various committees. who had considered the question at issue.
