CONFIDENCE IN MR W. S. GLENN
(BY TELEGRAPH—PRESS ASSOCIATION.) MARTON, July 5. A meeting of representatives of the Reform Party’s committees from all parts of Hangitikei last night endorsed the action of Mr W. S. Glenn in resigning his position as junior Government wjiip, in order to obtain greater freedom within the House.
The following motion was carried unanimously: “That this meeting of delegates of various committees in the Rangitikei e’ectorate desires to place on record its appreciation of th© good work done by Mr Glenn during the lasteight years, and to assure him of their complete confidence in him, believing that he will act in the best interests of the electorate and the party. Mr Glenn stated that he would still adhere to Reform principles, and would not oppose the Government in a noconfidence motion.
SEAMEN SUPPORT UNEMPLOYED’S DEMANDS.
WELLINGTON, July 5
A stop-work meeting of seamen carried this motion this morning: “That this stop-work meeting of members of tho Federated Seamen’s Union wholeheartedly endorses the demands of the unemployed foY trade union rates for full maintenance.” PROGRESS REPORT. NEW PLYMOUTH, July 5. Taranaki Oilfields, Ltd., reports: Waiapu No. 2 well is drilled to 1865 feet, with lOin. casing to 1848 feet. A hard band of shale at 1850 feet retarded progress. Gisborne No. 1 well, rigging up delayed by had weather.
