U.S. AEROPLANE CRASHES
PILOT KILLED
FATALITY AT LINDBERGH’S RECEPTION. rt Y CAtil.K —PIiJSSS ASSOCIATION—COP YRium OTTAWA, July 2. One of the United States army aeroplanes, accompanying Captain Lindbergh crashed when making a Landing here. Lieutenant Jackson wa.s killed. Captain Lindbergh, escorted by twelve aeroplanes, brought <&■ message of greeting, to the Premier (Air. Mackenzie King) (from President Coolidge for Canada’s diamond jubilee. Jackson’s death was due to a misunderstanding of the Landing directions, the two machines coll:di;ng, causing his to crash. The crowds, next- knowing of the accident, cheered Lindbergh, but he sat grim and unsmiling in the automobile. Lindbergh, after lunching a.t A i.scoumt AViiilingdon’iS, was the guest of honour with the American Minister, Air. Phillips, at a Government dinner.
