(From Our Own Correspondent.) FARMERS’ UNION. The local branch of the Farmers’ Union are actively engaged with the preparations for their grand annual ball, which is to be held towards the end of this mouth A strong committee of ladies was formed last Tuesday at a meeting convened by the local executive. In spite of hard times, the Auroa farmers intend to defy fate by catering for the patrons of their bail in a lavish style. The poultry yard and the pig pen will be sadly * dep.etecl after the event, while all the “goodies” conceivable will further grace the supper table. -Music, decorations and mirth will also combine to make it the “ball of the season” for >South Taranaki.

THE HALL COMMITTEE. At a meeting of the above committee on Tuesday evening it was decided to hand over the proceeds of the euc-hre party of June 7 towards defraying expenses incurred over a past “send-off” social. On the same evening another of their series of euchre parties was held, and this was once more well patronised. After several ties were played off, Mis. Hooper was in carrying off the ladies’ prize, while Mr, Dixon once more captured the men’s prize. VALEDICTORY. Oil Wednesday evening the social committee tendered a farewell social to Mr, and Mrs. S.
