NOTES BV “OUIDER.” A guldens’ training class has been commenced in Hawera. The next meeting will be held in the Women’s National Reserve Rest Rooms at 7.30 p.m. on the evening of Friday, Bth. July. There was a good -attendance at the last meeting, and all were most enthusiastic.

On Tuesday evening ,a party of Rangers visited Mr Townsend’s observatory for the purpose of studying the constellations. Tins is a part of the qualifications for the Ranger test, which corresponds to the seoond-claiss test for the Guides. Mr Townsend’s kindness in giving instruction in these matters is very much appreciated. A particularly i tercet ing feature of Tuesday’s visit was a view of the planet Saturn through the teelscope. A training camp for North Island Guilders will be held in November next. The last two camps, held at Levin and Wanganui, wore a great .success, and it is anticipated that the November camp will be largely attended. Mists M. Burgin’s company (Auckland) celebrates its .sixth, birthday this mouth. This, 'I believe, is the oldest company in New Zealand. An improvement has been made in the Guide uniform. In future. slots for belts are to he made in ah uniforms to keep the belt in position at the waist line. This applies to both Guides and Hinders. MAORI CHORUS.

We are indebted to Ai r M. R. Jones for a. Maori version of “For He’s a Jol’y Good Fellow.” This chorus is so frequently used in the Maori language that it .is desirable to have a correct translation. The words are as follows : Tenet te tangata pai rawa atu Tenet te tangata pai rawa atu Tenet te tangata pai rawa atu Ale ki ko tatou hold Are ki ko tatou hold Ale ki ko tatou hold Tenei te tangata pai. rawa atu Tenei te tangata pai rawa atu Tenei te tangata pai rawa atu Ale ki ko tatou hold. The words “pai rawa atu” sliould Ho sung ‘'pai rawa tu,” eliminating the last “a.” The line “Ale ki ko tatou hoki’’ is frequently sung “Ki hoki hoki mat,” but these latter words are not at all appropriate, and have not the meaning required.
