THE CASTLE PLEDGE.

I promise to smile every time I can, and to chase all the frowns into the dark cave, where the Smile Giant will kill them with his Magic Sword Happiness.

My Dear Smiles, — I suppose yon are all quite weary to-night after seeing so much Winter Show. Doesn’t it seem wonderful that in our own town we can collect so much? I m longing o read all the. Smiles’ letters telling me what they thought was the most interesting feature of the Show. Of course, I just loved the Hall of New Zealand Industries. 1 felt. l Had been carried awav on a magic carpet to many different parts of the world, for I never dreamt New Zealand could produce such a variety of things. How many ot its knew that baking powder was made in Christchurch) And did it occur to you that we can make both our cosy blankets and the soap to wash them with in New Zealand. Be suie and visit this hall, Smiles, because we really should buy New Zealand goods, and this is a good chance to discover iust what is made in our own land. Also take notice ot the wonderful mural pictures by Nugent Welch. These form a most interesting and artistic frieze m the Industries Hall, and it is good to realise that our country can produce not onlv practical men, but artistic ones also. In a little corner by the chocolates I noticed New Zealand rennet. It has never occurred to me before, when Ive been eating junket that the rennet was made m I, It ham. I hope you all like junket because it would be good to help advertise the brand made in Eltham, wouldn’t it? Well my dear fairies, after having seen the show, I could write a whole newspaper full about our splendid New Zealand, but I feel sure you will all feel like writing a book too.’' Do write next week and tell me what impressed you most. I’ll look forward to receiving the letters With much love from Your affectionate SMILE QUEEN.
