TESTING TYRES.

A JOB FOR FRIDAY. ‘•Test your tyres every Friday” is the slogan or a campaign launched by Britain's t\re manufacturers, with a view to educating the motorist to the importance <»t maintaining proper tyre p.iissuies. Fiiday is the recommended day, as with most motorists. Saturday ana Sunday are days during which correct tyre pressures are all-important. The modern tyre, in its wearing qualities, is a great improvement on it predecessors, but even to-day liberties must not lie taken with inflation pressuies. Apart, however, from the t \ res thernsel.es, tile maintainance of correct pressures has an important bearing on the handling of the ear —particularly on its steering—and also upon the comfort of the passengers, ail of which will tend to the popularisation of motoring. It is impossible to lay down a hard and fast rule as to the exact pressure to which every tyre should be inflated, for each car has its own peculiarities in this respect. Owners should, therefore, ascertain by actual experiment what pressures are, in fact best suited to their tyres for different loads, and should see to it that, according to the work ahead, the ideal figures are secured and maintained. By so doing motorists will both save their pockets and increase their joy in the use of the car.
