Amery in a speech at a luncheon given by the Empire Marketing Board to t ie Ee s of the Dominions, revealed that the board originated from a suggestion which Mr Den kin made at the Imperial Conference in 1908, but he recalled that the suggestion did not apply until the Conservatives were desirous of increasing preferences, but were unable to do so. owing to an election pledge not to introduce tariff reform fore it was decided to spend L 1,000,000 in assisting Empire development. Si, Stanley Reid (India) formerly editor of “The Times of India,” urged that the board’s work be extended throughout the Empire. 'i r ~ \ j Fraser (Australian Press Ajssn) supported Sir Sta.ni’ev Reid and said that the board ® hou ¥ Dominion purchasers a® to what Kmpire goods were available, before purchasin foreign goods. He hoped that M \merv, during- his visit to the Dominions would develop that suggestion.. Mr Amery, in responding, approved of the Dominions haying organisations working on parallel lines ad urged the ewspapers to use their influence to that end!-—A.P.A. and Sun.
