Some misconception appears to exist in, regard to the receait taking over oi the control of motor vehicles by the Public Works Department( states a Press Association message from Wellington. In a, statement issued .yesterday. the Minister, the Hon. K. S. Williams, said that it was noted that the taking over of the administration of the Motor Vehicles Act of 1924 by the Public Works Department had led to the assumption, judging by various newspapers, that the Department aiso proposed to take over the issue, of drivers’ licenses, the collection or mo'or lorry fees and some of the other dunes relating to motor vehicles at _ present devolving upon local authorities and their inspectors. “This is not the case,” said the Minister, and the only change from the former situation is that in future such motor vehicles as were previously attended to by the Internal Affairs Department will now he attended to by the Public Works Department. The issue of licenses, etc., will still be the. function of the Post Office, as, formerly.” Dr. Ted. Sayers, whose lecture at Eltham takes place to-morrow night, is the first New Zealand medical missionary to be appointed to the Solomon Islands. Previous to Ids leaving for the mission fields, Dr. Sayens llias been delegated to lecture in the four main New Zealand cities on medical mission' work, and South Taranaki ns particularly fortunate in securing his services.
