HAWERA COMPETITIONS.
1927 FESTIVAL. ATTRACTIVE CLASSES. Judged by the schedule as compared with that of the previous year, the forthcoming annual Hawera, Musical and Elocutionary Competitions Festival, to be held under the auspices of the Hawera Atale Choir on four days commencing on August 29, should completely outclass, the previous ’successes. The .schedule' contains 1.2 more dla-sses, accounted fo r by the in elation of dancing while the other sections have been made more attractive. In the three sections lor instrumental music, vocal music, and elocution a scholarship amounting in each case to 610/10/- (to be paid in. tuition fees) has been offered lor the most promising competitor under IS years of age. These awards will be made by the judges: Features of the dancing section are the noii. and It aka. dances provided' tor youthful Maori, competitors. The other classes .include operatic, character, skipping, fancy, and duo dancing, as well a® Sailor’,s Hornpipe, Highland Fling. Irish Jig, and English Folk dancing. In the vocal music section, there lias been provided for open choir test a handsome challenge shield donated by Mr. H. A. Brunette, which will be in addition to the generous cash prize. Additions to the section include vocial .solo tan cl accompaniment for ladies and gentlemen, sacred solo for ladies and gentlemen (two classes), and vocal duet. Additions to the elocutionary section are test recitations for ladies and gentlemen (two Classes) and a humorous dialogue. Entries are being received by trie secretary, Mir. Ralph Sage, and will close on August 3.
