ON SUNBURNT PLAINS.
1 can hear the children singing in tne iields amid tne hay, And a village church bell ringing On the hillside far ayay. 1 can feel the light rain falling, And see the soft, grey skies; To the cool, green fields of England Home, my weary spirit flies.
Once again I see the river AVnere the willows kiss the stream, And the rushes sigh and shiver, Like a whisper in a dream. 0 fragrant scent of clover, Wet with new-fallen rain To those' cool, green fields of England All my heart turns hack again.
Oft in sleep through woods I wander Where the pale primroses grow ; By where quiet streams meander. Past deep pools where lilies blow. Then 1 hear the haunting ripple Of the brook beside the mill; And of cool, green fields in England When I wake. I’m dreaming still. Get out your dictionaries, Smiles.
