RIVERLEA.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) KITCHEN TEA. On Thursday, the 9tli inst., a most enjoyable function was held in the local hall, the occasion being the .giving of a kitchen tea to Miss Jessie Johns. There was a very large attendance, and the presents were very numerous, valuable and serviceable. The function took the form of a dance interspersed with songs, etc., and was kept going with a swing until the “wee sma.’ oors” of the morning. Excellent dance music was provided by Air. and Airs. Wood, of Otakeho. LADIES’ HOCKEY BALL. The grand ball held here by the Kaponga Ladies’ Star Hockey Club last Friday evening proved most successful, and should result in a. good credit balance towards the club’s funds. The hall was beautifully decorated, and reflected great credit on the committee for the work done. As usual, the music supplied by Boulton’s orchestra was excellent, and the supper provided was quite up to the usual high Riverlea standard. Altogether, in spite of the rather had weather conditions, the club is to be congratulated ora the success of the function. EUCHRE PARTY. On Alonday last the usual euchre party was held, and though the weather was not good there was an increased attendance. Keen competition again resulted, and the. ladies’ prize, a handsome vase, was carried off by Miss Lomas, who won eight games, the runners-up being Airs. Gardner and Miss "Webby with seven games each. The gentlemen’s prize, a spirit level, was won by Air. AI. F. Voullaire, who also won eight games, the runners-up being Messrs. J. Gibson and J. Alalone with seven each. The committee has decided from now on, to hold these parties every Tuesday instead of fortnightly. THE WEATHER. The weather during tlie last week or two has been decidedly wintry, and though there has not been such a very great amount of rain, it has certainly been cold. I notice your Awatuna corree.spondeut says that the weather of the week-end before last was such that he thought it needed your bumble servant to describe it properly. Personally, I don’t see it. There was only one way it could lie described, ami that was “Rotten,” with a capital R. At least that seemed to be tlie general consensus of opinion, and it certainly was mine and. from bis remark’s, “Awatiina’s” also.
