DISARMAMENT
THE AMERICAN PROPOSALS. BASIS FOR AGREEMENT. HOPE OF THE OFFICIALS. BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. Received 11.35 a.m. to-day. WASHINGTON, June 22. The State Department makes it clear regarding the United States Geneva proposals, that they are the result of the best thought of the Administration, and, barring the usual detail compromises, contend that they should be maintained as the basis of the final agreement. Officials cling to the hope that an agreement will be reached, and that the United States proposal for an extension of the five-five-three ratio to the auxiliary oral fc will be accepted. The proposals, it is contended, represent the country’s minimum requirements, and it is believed the British and Japanese proposals will not be pressed' to the point that it would endanger the conference.
