GRAND THEATRE—TO-NIGHT. “WHISPERING WIRES.” ‘‘Whispering Wires,” Fox Films latest mystery comedy, i s based ou the noted stage success of the same name which thrilled Broadway for almost a year. The .stage play was considered by press and publio as one of' the finest ever presented on the American stage. Pre-view critics have pronounced the film version even better, owing to the virtually unlimited scope of the camera. Many scenes not possible’ on the stage have been incorporated in the screen version, which is to be finally screened a.t the Grand Theatre The story oi “Whispering Wires’ ’ is by Henry Leverage. Beautiful Anita Stewart is the featured player. Edmund Burns lxas the leading male role. The supporting programme includes the serial “Strings of Steel.” OPERA BOUSE. “THE WALTZ DREAM.” FINAL SCREENING TO-NIGHT. There as charm and fervour, joy* and pathos comedy anil just a little note ol sadness in “The Waltz Dream, ’ the Exhibitor’s Alliance special. which had dst first showing at the Opera House la>st evening. The flavour of old Viennr is in the picture, and one lias an intense longing to go to that gay city, where, girls .are blonde and gentlemen are men; where music and the luscious white wines of Gninzig blend to. make happiness. “The Waltz Dream,” is concerned with a chillyj provincial princess, whose father brings lien- ito> Vienna in .search of a husband. He has set liis mind on the Grand Duke, but that worthy evades the net by delegating the duty of esaortina the Princess around Vienna to. his aide, Count Nicholas Prey 11, Nux for short. In the end Nux losses her and a kiss means marriage. But so* tedious are the. ceremonies in the court of Flausenberg than Nux breaks away on Ins wedding night and rushes off 10 a local v ine garden, where lie meets an t falls in love witn Franzi, leader of the orchestra and a fellow Viennese. Ibis affair ru.uj< smoothly, the. while his life in the palace becomes more and more tedious. In desperation the Princess asks the Lord Chamberlain 'to bring her a Viennese to teach hen' the- customs of that gay city. Framza is picked for itli© p>a<rt- and. now she educates Ailix and reforms her ideas of dress and deportment, to the sorrowfull loss of her own sweetheart, makes up quo of the most interesting sequence® of the ‘‘Waltz Dream.”. A change of programme was presented by the “Elton College Boy,” a clever violinist who has won high, favour with local audiences. The whole programme will be presented again to-night.
