TRADE WITH ARGENTINA.

WARM BRAISE FOR CONSUL. A PLEA FOR RECIPROCITY. Warm and sincere tributes to the work done by Senor Humberto Bidone as Consul-General for the Argentine in New Zealand were paid at the annual dinner of the Fruitgrowers' Federation at Wellington. Among a number of speakers was the Hon. O. J. Hawken, Alinister of Agriculture, who said that Senor Bidone had always done his utmost to promote the best- feelings of friendship and trade between the two countries, and be was satisfied lie would continue to

do so. Senor Bidone. in view of his departure shortly, was presented with a travelling rug as a token of esteem and regard. "Aly first word must he one of thanks for your kindness,” said Senor Bidone. “Your products, consisting ol apples, live stock, honey, preserved fish, condensed milk, etc., are admitted into the Argentine duty free, and I hope you will enjoy this privilege for many years to come, but permit me to make a suggestion. Try to buy, as a reciprocal, some Argentine products, such as linseed, tanning materials and wine. Then the commercial relations between both countries will be lasting. A commercial treaty will foster still more the economic trade of New Zealand and the Argentine. I look to the day when the New Zealand trade in apples to the Argentine will he increased tenfold.”
