INTERFERENCE ALLEGED. SPECTATORS REPORTED TO UNION. Three instances of alleged misconduct on the pait of spectators an demonstrations against referees during recent Rugby games in tlie province were before itide Taranaui U nion Management Committee at libs meeting last evening, and a warning was given by the chairman (Mr. J. McLeod) that it would brook no interference with referees m charge of games under the union’s jurisdiotuqn. He pointed out further that on its own grounds the union lhad the right of prohibiting the attendance of ( persons deemed to Ibe guilty of unruly conduct. “While refereeing a match at Kaponga, qn May 21, Ivaptonga v. Opunake, a spectator used iaibusave language and defied me when asked to stand off the line. He lias been asked by our association to apologise, hut no apology has been forthcoming,” stated a report, signed by Mr. K. MeNae and fQtmarded through the South Taranaki Referees’. Association to the Taranaki Association. A report made by a refei'ee, Mr. E. A. Tbiwnley, to the North Taranaki Referees’ Association called attention to the alleged action of a spectator at the Rahotu v. Old Roys junior game, at Rahotu, on May 28, “in that he stopped the game on two occasions by blowing a whistle from the side line, calling ‘offside’ and ‘knock-on,’ etc." The report also stated that, when warned, he stated that' he had a. perfect right to whistle if he wanted, to and though he did cat again use the whistle he had loudly criticised the referee’s decisions. Mr. L. Andrews, referee of the Lep-perton-Cliffaon junior grade match at Lepperton, on June 4, reported a spectator for' “insulting and insinuating remarks.” and also “for disputing all . rulings.” Consideration of the three reports was taken concurrently, and it was decided to communicate with the persons reported asking that explanations be forwarded to the union.
