On Sunday night the place was held up ancl bombarded for nearly five hours, between 40 and 50 shots being fired into the building. Soon after 9 p.m. a man came to Paranui and went to the hut occupied by an employee named Green. The man called Green -out, and as he came to the door a shot was fired. Green bolted for the homestead, 100 yards distant, and made good time, assisted by several shots which were fired after him. The man also fired at the owner, William McLean, who was reading at the time. When Green rushed into the house all the doors were barricaded, and Mrs. McLean and children made as safe as possible. From then on until 2 a.in. the occupants were kept in & state of extreme nervous tension as shot aftershot was fired, a number striking the house and penetrating the walls. Bullets were picked up inside, but fortunately no one was hit. At 2 a.m. the man went away. In the morning Mr. McLean communicated with the Banana police, who investigated the matter.
