PASTURES DETERIOR ATING. (BY TELEGRAPH" “PRESS ASSOCIATION.) GISBORNE, June 13. A meeting of farmers, after being addressed bv Mr Jessep, chairman of the Meat Board, carried the following motion: “That as adequate stocking with cattle is necessary in order to prevent the pastures from deteriorating and to maintain production, this meeting approves of the Meat Board’s proposals to .stimulate the export of beef, and urges upon the Government to give effect to the same.”. Mr Jessep stressed in his speech that the prosperity of the Dominion depended entirely upon its pastures and that these could not be maintained without proper .stocking. Sheep land required a certain number • of cattle, and. as the beef industry did not pay, the shortage of cattle was musing serious deterioration to the pastures. •
