The death of Lord Robert Abinger, at'the -age of 51 years, is reported by cable from London. The death of Lord Swaythling, head of the hanking firm of Samuel Montagu and Co., aged 58 years, is reported by cablegram from London. Mr. H. Gladstone Hill, travellerlecturer j is staying at the Egmont Hotel. . ‘ Mr. Hubert Carter, a. tenor singer, who has been" engaged by the Hawera Orchestral Society for its concert, will arrive to-morrow and is to -stay at the Commercial Hotel. Mr. M. C. Crighton, of Hawera, left this morning by the south express for Wellington, where he is to attend the annual conference of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers ’ Association as the delegate of the South Taranaki Association. Memories of the giants of the past in the cricket world are recalled by the death of William Attewell, a famous Notts player, at the age of 66. A.ttewell, besides being a leading county man ,was a member of the All Efngland teams of 1884, 1887 and 1891, and toured Australia -in those seasons.
