FRIESIAN BREEDERS.
MEETING OF TARANAKI BRANCH Mr. C. Manhunt, president of lhe provincial branch of the Friesian Association, occupied the chair at a meeting of members in New Plymouth on Friday. There were also present Alo.ss.rs C. \V. Baldwin, H. Smart, E. J. Alien. A. G. Wood, W. K. Morris.. H. J. Alarchant and If. El Johnson. It was reported that there would probably not- be an exhibition of pedigree cattle at Hawera. but the matte: was left to the chairman and secretary. BOYS’ AND GIRLS’ CLUBS. The matter of a subsidy to these clubs, was introduced by Air. Johnson, who urged that the interest of the children would be extended by being assisted to exhibit at the shows, and thus the breed would be brought more before the public. Air. Wood suggested that the agricultural societies should have charge of these competitions, and it was urged that children should be encouraged to exhibit. Air. H. Marcliaut drew attention to the different methods in North and South Taranaki. In the former all judging was clone oil condition, where• as in the South t-heie was judging both on condition and on dairy type. A proposal by Air -Johnson that a gold medal be provided for the New Plymouth, Hawera and Stratford shows was supported and carried. It was also decided to give small money prizes for the two latter shows. It was resolved to suggest, to the club committees the need of branding or earmarking the calves entered earlier than, has been the ease, in order to ensure that the calves entered are that which are offered for judging.
