HAWERA ORCHESTRAL SOCIETY.

CONCERT ON JUNE 14. The first concert of the 1927 season will be given in the Opera. House on Tuesday, June 14. The programme to be submitted will be the finest yet given by., the society. The society engaged the services of Mr Hubert Carter, the well-known operatic tenor, who has just returned from a triumphal tour of the British Isles- In addition to this artist, Mrs Anderson, a brilliant -pianist© from the Nelson College of Music, will play Liszt’s Hungarian Rhapsody, ” with orchestral accompaniment, an item never before heard in Hawera. The society has also engaged Mr G. Turvey, a very fine bassoonist, wlio will play the solo “Lucy Long,” with orchestral accompaniment. The orchestra, of 45 performers will play some very fine, items, which will include: Overture, “Pique Dame”; The “Slavonic Rhapsody”; suite of dances by Montague Ring; “Pirates of Penzamce,” Sullivan; serenade, “Les Millions d’ Arlequi'n,” Drigo; characteristic piece. “The Grasshopper’s Danco,” Bucalossi. Intending honorary members may , procure tickets 1 for this season by ringing Mrs King, ’phone 2197. or MiBarley, ’pliene 2779. The plan will lie open at the Opera House confectionery on Tuesday, June 7, for subscribers, and for 'non-subscribers on Saturday, June 11.
