WHERE REFORM IS NEEDED. (BY TELEGRAPH - PRESS ASSOCIATION.) TIMARU, June 4. At a meeting of the Timaru Women’s Association it was decided to urge the Government to act on the recommendation of the committee of inquiry re fnental defectives and sexual offenders without further delay, the meeting being of the opinion that no reform is more urgently needed for the future well-being and prosperity of New Zealand.
BOOKMAKERS FINED. WANGANUI, June 4. 1 Dave Wilson and Charles Byers, whose place was raided yesterday, wore fined £75 each this morning on charges of keeping a common gaming house. MORE STOWAWAYS. WELLINGTON, June 4. Three stowaways, who said they were starving and could not obtain work, were discovered above the boilers of the Mataroa, a few minutes ,after she left the wharf this morning homeward bound. This makes seven stowaways this week, four having been found on the Raranga. Two of the men on the Mataroa are New Zealanders from Taranaki and the other p is a Scot. They were landed by a launch. /
