BASKET BALL.
LADIES’ ASSOCIATION FORMED.
At a meeting of delegates at Stratford this week it was decided to form a Taranaki Ladies’ Basketball Association, and a constitution and rules were adopted. Mr A. 11. R. A mess (principal of the Stratford Technical High School) presided and outlined what had been done to prepare the way for the formation of the association.
Miss Wilson, principal of St. Mary’s School, considered that the formation of the association was a step in the right direction. Basketball would undoubtedly become more popular among the girls, and the association should do something towards developing the game and encouraging uniformity of rules and play. She thought the primary schools might get in touch with the association, so that there should lie uniformity throughout the province. Miss A. Eastwood stated that clubs might be formed in the various towns. As the girls left school there would bo a possibility of finding players among the older girls. Already the old girls of the Inglewood school were thinking of forming a club. In answer to a question, Mr Amess stated that, although a start was being made in the secondary schools, there was no intention of confining the competitions to these schools. The constitution was so framed that there could he expansion in the future.

The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mr A. H. R. Amess; vice-president, Miss Wilson; secretary, Miss D. M. Joiner; executive, Miss Stewart, Mrs F. Bowler and Miss Eastwood'.
A hearty Vote of thanks whs accorded Mr H. Trimble for his generosity in providing a shield for competition.
