FOUND DEAD.
MAN’S BODY AT KAKARAMEA
EVIDENCE AT INQUEST.
The inquest was held at Patea on Wednesday touching the death of John Beirne, whose body was found on the sea cliff at Kakaramea on Saturday. Evidence -was given by Constable Phillips. On the body was found a metal watch with inscription “For Joe Riley from J.B.,’’ also 5s 6id. An art union ticket was also found with the name of “J. Bierne’’ on it, and the writing had been identified. The body showed signs of having been dead from four to six months. S. M. Riley, of Hawera, said he had known deceased for about 18 months, and last saw him about the New YeaT, when he appeared to be in his usual health and spirits. He told witness that he was going to try and get a job On a farm at Kakaramea, and left some x>f belongings at witness’ place, with a request that they be forwarded to him when he got a job. Deceased would be about 55 or 56 years of ago. Witness identified the clothing at the police station as identical with those worn by deceased, and he said that he was certain that the body at the Courthouse was that of John Bierne.
Evidence was also given by Dr Simmons and Mr S. R. Veitch, and the following verdict was returned: “That the jury is satisfied from the evidence submitted that the body is that of John Bierne, produce merchant, late of Hawera, and that he was found dead at the cliffs at Kakaramea on May 28, 1927, though how he came by his death there is no evidence to show.’’
