MOKOIA SPORTS.

(To the Editor)

Sir, —I must thank Mr Richardson for ius feehle attempt to answer my letter in last night’s ‘‘Star.” He says he wouid prefer replying to one signing his own name. My reason for .using a nom de plume is because I prefer not to come into the limelight, for, being a junior, it would .seem as if T were trying to teach my seniors something they dont know about running a sports meeting. Is it not the place in the Press to show a sports body how to run a sports meeting and not go to your committee and be told they were ruiming itp Air Richardson says ix seems to him that the “sports” now-a-days want all their .sport for nothing. I might say for Mr Richardson’s sake that the “sports’’ do not get much spoilt out of the football, seeing the charges they have to face. They (the footballers) are making the sport for the sports body, who charge all the onlookers, players, etc. I consider the seven-a-side a pretty tough - thing for the players. Now, I never mentioned about the cost of the shield, but I might mention that the footballers have paid for it out of the £2l, charged them at the gate. As for the 15guinea clip presented by Mi- Oann, of Hawera. it had not come to light when the Mokoia .sports were held. It had its birth afterwards. The seven gold medals given by the tradespeople to the association are not much of an honour, seeing that the players have nearly paid for them out of the charges they have had to pay. Re- the inscription on them, I never mentioned that the association should meet the cost-. This- Mr. Richardson refused to do in reply to the Whaneiroa coach, Mr. Brown, saying that the Settlers’ Association had already done their share. As for the shield, it was never mentioned. The winning team, I would like to inform Mr Richardson, barring three players who did not go to the expense of going •home and returning ,were told by the doorkeeper at the concert to pay or get out. They said that two of them were out of work and did not have the means, and the doorkeeper let them stay. The refreshment tent is run by the ladies. I hope they will keep their proceeds separate to run a basketball or a rounder tourney, when the seven-a-side is buried, for it will have a short and merry life as far as the boy® are concerned, especially while the old committee handles the reins. Now, Mokoia Settlers’ Association, creep on solid ground, otherwise you will go under, for it is the truth that hurts. Thanking yon in anticipation for your valuable space, I am, etc., STILL WITNESS. Hawera, June 2.
