MANAIA.

A general meeting of the Kaupokonui Beach Domain Board was held last Friday night. Various committees were set up for the fourth annual novelty plain and fancy dress ball, in June. The committee intends making tills year’s affair eclipse all previous efforts. A few enquiries were received for the right- to build huts.—lt- was decided to charge 10s for the right and for every "week the hut is occupied a rent of os per week. Plans of the proposed building must be submitted to the Domain, Committee for approval.

Mr and Mrs P. W. Barnes entertained the Waimate Senior Football Club to a complimentary dinner on Saturday evening. A sumptuous ,supper was provided and the- tables were beautifully decorated with the Waimate colours. Mr J. Paterson, president of the chib, occupied the chair. A short toast list was duly honoured, viz., “The Ring,” “Taranaki Rugby Union,” “Waimate Football Club,” “Referees,” “'Selectors,” and “Host and Hostess.” The president heartily thanked Mr and Mrs Barnes, on- behalf of the club, for theii' generous consideration and kindly thoughtfulness, which every member appreciated. Three hearty cheers were given for the host and hostess, and also “For They are Jolly Good Fellows’ was sung. Mr Barnes, on behalf of wife and self, thanked the president for his kind remarks, and said that they had taken a keen interest in the Waimate Football Club and would always do so. He wished the club every success in the future.

The committee of the children’s fancy dress ball met last Saturday to report progress. Everything in connection with the bal 1 is progressing satisfactory. Mrs J. Christie will hold practices for the children every Tuesday and Friday at 3.30 p.m. in the Town Hall.

Manv friends and relatives assembled at’the residence of Mr J. Daley, senr., last evening to wish Mr Daley many lumpy returns and loood wishes fo.r lids SDtli ’ birthday. A very pleasant time spent. Mr .T. J. Meldo.ii, on bell alf of the- visitors, in an appropriate speech, wished Mr Daley many happy returns. -Mr Daley thanked Mr Me’do'ii. and all present for their good wishes, and the .gathering broke up with the singing of “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow.’
