WAIHI DOG TRIALS.

SOUTH TARANAKI COMPETITORS

The work at the Waihi Sheep Dog Trials this week was all very good and several South Taranaki dogs competed and won distinction. The results are:—

Class 1. —Head, Pull and Hold __in Ring, About 400 yards. Points: Heading 16, bringing back 18, holding in ring, 4, command 12, total 50. First prize £6, second £2, third £l.

W. V. Mclntyre’s .Chief Junr., 43pts 1O. J. Dunlop’s Lad, 40)pts 2 E. Johnson’s Lammamoor Hemp, 40pts. a —. Sole’s Double, 39-J-pts 4 J. W. Hirst’s Tweed, 39pts 5

JUDGE’S COMMENTS

Chief Junior. —Cast to left, ran too wide; over-ran head, smelling for sheep; too wide a cast; headed in IJmin. Started sheep a bit quick, after wasting time; then got them over fence after a little trouble. Lack ot progress on flat and' a little to left; entered ring rJt /’rent very) nicely; round ring first way very nicely; completed after a perfect ring. Lad. —Cast to left, a. bit wide; headed a little too close in lmin. Ran head into pull; brought sheep nicely, but a little too fast, and let past ring. Let sheep out once. Sheep broke after first drive. Ring work fair. In. the class for heading and yards the results were :

I Dunlop’s Lad, 50 points 1 P Forrester’s Charm, 49) points... 2. J. Edwin’s Ted, 49 points 3. W. V. Mclntyre’s Chief Jnr., 48) points 4 J Hirst’s Tweed, 45)- points 5

The judge’s comments were as follow :

Lad. —Cast to left, stopped, recast, headed in lmin, across a little close, let sheep drift to left, too far across flat, through flags first attempt, very good drive to hurdles, through first attempt. Dog turned .sheep (second drive Jet sheep to left, not very good, split sheep at pen hut got into good position and yarded very nicely at first attempt. Charm. —Cast to right, ran up tree on good line, headed in half a minute, rather rash, ran head into pull a hit, came a bit quick, started sheep very fair. Fair pull across flat, through flags at first attempt, dog a little far awaiy, king smelt, (a bit, very near hurdles, then let sheep back a bit, through hurdles at first atempt; second drive fair, with dog a little wild, to yard fairly well. Fair work to pen and finished after some trouble fairly well.
