ANOTHER BREAK

IN IMPORTANT LEVEE.

MORE LAND FLOODED.

TIIE MISSISSIPPI DISASTER,

BY CABLE—PRESS ASSOCIATION—COPYRIGHT. Received 11.35 a.m. to-day. NEW YORK, May 24.

A New Orleans message states that the levee at McCrea on the Athciafalaya River, despite efforts to save it, which have been made for several davs, broke suddenly, flooding Point Coupee parish, and dooming two million more acres of fertile Louisiana farm-lands. No lives were lost. It is believed that the 50,000 inhabitants of the parish will evacuate before it is completely inundated. This newest break means the inundation of six more parishes and the complete transformation of the Sugar Bowl lands into a gigantic lake necessitating a total of 105,000' more persons leaving their homes. The break is already one thousand feet wide and it is expected to extend to two thousand. The waters are at present rushing through at thirty miles per hour.
