BLAST RUINS OIL BASE.
17 WORKERS Dili. PARCO, Ari/.., April 6. Seventeen bodies have been removed from the shattered ruins of the Producers & Refiners oil plant here, following a terrific explosion at A. 10 a.m. The blast occurred without the slightest warning. A moment after the explosion flames were leaping in all directions, and dense volumes of smoke blinded and suffocated the .workers as 'tlijey desperately sought safety. \ The explosion rocked and shattered windows in this unique oil town, laid out only a few years ago by Frank E. Kistler, head of the Parco organisation, and on model architectural lines, and the detonation was felt in Raw,ins, seven miles west. The disaster was caused by the explosion of a chamber in a high pleasure still, which set fire to nine other stills and two storage tanks. The fire still was burning this morning, but was under control.
