30,000-CLAUSE BILL.
WOULD TAKE A YEAR TO READ IN PARLIAMENT.
PARIS, May 1.
Experts in constitutional law at the Chamber of Deputies are puzzled as to liow to get over one of the most gigantic tasks ever imposed on that Assembly. A technical measure known as 19221927 Financial Adjustment Bill, which has to pass the Chamber, has just been tabled. It consists of 30,000 different articles, every one of which, according to the strict measure of the law, ought to be read aloud to the deputies and voted on in turn.
As -it is estimated that this would take something like a year of parliamentary time, it is now proposed that merely the headings of chapters should be read out and that votes should be taken on each department only. In this way it is hoped to get rid of the measure within three sittings.
