DAIRY CONTROL.
MINISTERIAL SPEECHES. MR GROUNDS IN* REPLY. (BY TELEGRAPH I’ItESS ASSOCIATION.) WELLINGTON, May 23. Mr W. Grounds, chairman of the Dairy Control Board, in reply to the Hon. J. A. Young, insists that his statements were, specific, precise, and incontrovertibly true. To claim that because the Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates told the London deputation that control was decided upon and would continue, while he opposed 1 _ the adoption of one of the first essential details, betrayed an inclination to face both ways, to run with the hare and hunt with the honuds. While acknowledging the Government’s support and assistance, Mr Grounds contends that while the farmers form the great backing of the Government party, the whole momentum of the political machine was directed by mercantile intrests and driven roughshod across the farmers. Having put liis hand to the plough, he will not leave the field in possession of his opponents.
