ATTEMPTED BURGLARY.

MATAPU STORE TAMPERED WITH. An audacious attempt at burglary was perpetrated sometime last night at the Matapu store (writes o>ur correspondent) . In going as usual this morning into th© shop to open up, Mr Petty found several holes bored round the front door lock, and it appears as if an intruder was disturbed in his work. There were seven or eight holes bored round the lock, and the burglar was just readv to use the saw to enable him to get the llock entirely out from the door, when he was, it is presumed, disturbed by a neighbour’s coughing. ’The offender would not have got any cash, but could have placed to his credit anv amount of small goods. The matter is in the hands of the police. .
