COMPENSATION CLAIM.
JURY’S VERDICT SET ASIDE. (BY TELEGRAPH —PRESS ASSOCIATION.) . GREYMOUTH May 18. Mr. Justice Adams gave his reserved decision in a, compensation claim heard at last sitting of the Supreme Court here, in connection with the death of Peter Carmody at Brown’s Greek sawmill, Inangahua, through a fiddl.iniC saw mishap. A claim was mad© for £3OOO compensation by the Public Trustee, on behalf of the deceased's children. The jury awarded £IOOO. Mr. Q. S. Thomas (Christchurch), defendant’s counsel, raised! a nonsuit point, which has now .been decided in* defendant’s favour, the jury's award being set aside oil the ground that Oa.r.mody’s death was caused by his own action in working the saw without authority.
