ANNUAL GATHERING. ATHLETIC AND HORSE EVENTS. The annual gathering of the Mokoia Shorts Association opened at tlie sports grounds this morning under very favourable circumstances. The weather was line, though dull, and t-herei was an attendance, of some 400 persons present early in the proceedings.. From the outset everything went with a fine swing, a tribute to the good organising work of the energetic president Mr D. S. Richardson), the hon. secretary (Mr L. A. Richter), and the committees and stewards. There were refreshment booths on the ground, a much-appre-ciated section of the arrangements. During the afternoon the Hawera Municipal Band enlivened proceedings with a series of fine selections, and these were much enjoyed. The annual concert and dance will be held in tlie evening at the hatll, and during tlie evening the prizes will be presented. The evening function always draws a large and interested crowd from all over the district.. The following are the results of the events held up till noon. 100 Yards maiden hanidiciap.—J. Paul 1, M.
