BOYS’ AND GIRLS’ CLUBS

SENIOR COMPETITION

In furtherance of the work done by ex-pupils of the various schools in the growing of root crops, Messrs A. J. Uiasson and Hod Syme spent Tuesday and Wednesday judging on the plains and in the country round Awatuna, finding on their tour many excellent crops l and several instances of thorough cultivation, in one case, that of If. Taylor, of Ngaere, they could not fine tault with the crop in this respect. The work was well nigh perfect. Hoy Wallis (Okaiawa) and Willie Daker.s (Manaia; just failed of this standard. The conditions were .set out in Tuesday’s “Star,” being briefly that two plots should be grown, with the same manure, except that in Class 1 potash was added ana in Class 2 agricultural .salt. The area was one quarter acre, divided into two plots. For cultivation and quality there was a maximum of ten points each. Results were as below :
