MOKOIA SETTLERS’ ASSN.
ANNUAL SPORTS
The arrangements in connection with the sports to be held on Wednesday next are now completed, and it onl,\ remains for the weather to be propitious to ensure a record success. Many valuable trophies have been donated by Hawera and other business friends, and competitors winning these trophies will receive much more value than the money offered. There are prospects of keen competition for the Lane Cup and president’s gold medal presented to the winner of most points during the day—in the association’s districts.
The Bennett and Suttou Cup for tlio horse leaping competition is also attracting eonsiclleraible attention, and this year pony jumps have also been added to the programme. The jumps are also much improved on former years. Mr. W. McL’Dowie has kindly consented to act as judge of the horse events this year. A new feature in connection with the seven-a-side junior football competition is tlie association’s ten guinea challenge shield and seven solid gold medals. The shield is a handsome trophy, and any team will be proud to hold it for oil© year. Many teams have already entered anti more are expected. The programme is larger, brighter and better than ever, and as the grounds are well sheltered from all sides, patrons will find continuous enjoyment. ’
